Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that is generally performed to improve the appearance or the function of a human nose. Rhinoplasty comes from the Greek work “rhinos” which means nose and “Plassein” which means to shape. Rhinoplasty is also commonly called nose reshaping or a “nose job”. This surgery is performed by an Otolaryngologist who is a head and neck surgeon, a maxillofacial surgeon or a plastic surgeon. Rhinoplasty is a popular surgery amongst people who feel their nose is not aesthetically pleasing and they want it to appear more attractive. In many cases this surgery is done for reconstructive purposes incase of trauma, breathing problems or even birth defects.

Rhinoplasty is recommended only after the face has achieved complete growth, so this means that this operation can be performed mid to late teens and any time after that. A bad nose can lower confidence and make you shy, but if you want to change that it is advisable that you first consult a doctor who can then chalk out a plan for you. As every nose is as different as your individuality, your procedure is also structured around your needs. So when you go in for a consultation don’t be afraid to speak up and ask for what you want.

Though Rhinoplasty is considered to be quite safe, there can be certain complications and you must be aware of them before you opt for it. These complications are pretty uncommon but there could be post operative bleeding, there could be infection, there could be adhesions which are scars that are formed to bridge from the nasal cavity to the septum to the turbinates. These adhesions can cause difficulty in breathing as well. Some people even red spots or bruises that fade away, but sometimes can be permanent. And the biggest fear is if you don’t get the Rhinoplasty done from an expert and a reputed doctor there are chances that the nose job will not be done correctly and might appear worse than before.

Rhinoplasty is performed in two ways. It can be either be performed under general anesthesia of local anesthesia with sedation. This surgery lasts about 1 ½ hours. An Open Technique involves an incision being made at the base of your nose between the nostrils or in the mucosal lining inside your nostril which is called a Closed Technique.

If you are looking to change the way your nose appears for either aesthetic or medical reasons, then Rhinoplasty is the safest option. We would suggest you read up on this matter on the internet and consult a few doctors before you make your final decision. Also don’t be afraid to ask amongst friends and family for references. It is better you ask now than repent later.

Breast augmentation is also known as breast enlargement and is considered a safe procedure. This operation is done in order to increase the size and shape of the breast. This can be done incases where one feels that her breasts are too small or one breast is smaller than the other or even in cases where the patient is suffering from breast cancer and wants to undergo corrective surgery after the breast cancer surgery. Many women who lose weight after pregnancy feel that breasts are smaller and so they too can opt for this surgery.

Breast augmentation involves putting an artificial silicone implant either under the chest muscle under the breast or the breast tissue. Every cosmetic surgeon will first study your case and then recommend what procedure is best for you. Your individual needs and preferences may differ so remember to discuss them with your breast augmentation surgeon in detail.

If you are looking to get breast augmentation in Brisbane or any other city in Australia, it is advisable that you refer only to a reputed cosmetic surgeon, who has plenty experience in this field. Ask for references amongst your friends and family as they will suggest only the best to you.

What are the breast implants made of?
Breast implants are made of an outer layer of silicone and they are generally filled with salt water or silicone gel. Your breast augmentation surgeon in Brisbane will suggest the right size and shape for your breast implants. Breast implant manufacturers say that breast implants can last up to 10 years without any problems and in some cases even for more time.

Can I breastfeed after getting breast implants?
Yes you can breast feed normally even after getting breast implants. It is suggested though that you let your surgeon know before hand if you are planning to have children as then they can choose the right kind of implants and type of operation to do. Studies have shown that there are no traces of silicone in breast milk, but you should consult with your doctor in any case.

What are the risks?
As any surgery is concerned there are risks involved, though breast enlargement is generally considered a safe operation. But you should expect discomfort, bruising, pain, swelling for a couple of weeks after the operation. The scars will continue to fade over the next year, so don’t try and rush things and let your body heal its self. If you feel any discomfort make sure you let your surgeon know immediately. There could be certain complications as well like reactions to the anesthesia, excessive bleeding, developing a blood clot in your leg also known as deep vein thrombosis, though to avoid this most surgeons will ask you to wear compression tights during the surgery. You could even get infections, or realize the breast sizes are obviously different. There could also be abnormal scar tissue, the scars could not heal correctly and become permanent, breast may lose earlier sensitivity, the implants could crease and cause ripples on the skin and the implants could also leak either slowly or instantaneously, in both cases they will have to be removed.

After reading this fact sheet, you are now better informed to take the right decision about how and when to go about your breast enlargement surgery. There are many breast augmentations Brisbane surgeons, so make sure you get all your questions answered before taking the decision.

One of the first ways that a baby forms and intangible bond with his or her mother is through breast feeding. This simple act is a start to a wonderful relationship between a mother and her child. But there are many myths and misconceptions attached with breastfeeding and is believed to be unhealthy and even unpleasant by some. But this is not true and mother’s milk is deemed to be the healthiest nutrient a baby can require.

One of the simplest advantages is that mother’s milk is easily available after birth, is the healthiest, clean, sterile and uncontaminated. Mother’s milk contains anti bacterial properties that protects the baby in the initial months. The milk that is secreted in the first week after the delivery is studied to be the most beneficial for the baby. It contains protective antibodies and is very rich in protein. This milk is called colostrum and is cream in colour and is slightly concentrated. Colostrum provided the maximum fighting power against gastrointestinal infections. Many women, due to ignorance believe this milk is a waste product, but that is not so. This milk should be breast fed to the baby without fail.

Mother’s milk is extremely essential as the intestinal mucosa present in the infant is quite vulnerable for the first 2-3 months after birth. Lactoferrin which is a protein found in breast milk provides protection against respiratory and intestinal infections. It is this same protein that acts as an antibacterial agent which keeps the milk sterile for hours. This allows working women to collect the milk which can be used to feed the baby at later times. This milk however needs to be stored in a sterilised glass bottle. Please consult your doctor for more details.

Women generally produce 500ml of milk everyday and this can increase up to 700ml in the first year that the mother is breast feeding. Mother’s milk contains around 70 calories per 100ml of milk and this more than meets the baby’s requirements. Mother’s milk has lesser protein than cow’s milk and so is easy for the baby to digest in the first few months. If the infant is on cow’s milk from the beginning then there are chances that he or she might develop an allergy to cow’s milk. Milk from breast feeding is rich in carnitine which is helpful for the infant to develop healthy liver functions. Breast milk helps the baby’s body absorb calcium better and helps promote brain growth. It has been proven that children that were breast few have a higher IQ than those that were not.

So breast feeding is advantageous for the baby because:
It protects the infants from ear infections, diarrhea, meningitis, respiratory infections, and gastrointestinal infections.
There is a lower risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
Increased intelligence and help in optimum brain development.
There is a decreased risk of some cancers like childhood leukemia and there is a lower risk of childhood diabetes.
There is a lower risk of asthma and eczema.
There is a lower risk of obesity in later life and developing psychological disorders.

For Mothers it is beneficial as:
It helps the uterus to return to its pre pregnancy shape and state.
It reduces post partum bleeding
It helps mothers return to the pre pregnancy weight faster.
It reduces the risk of breast cancer as well.

Australia is one of the countries globally that openly embrace the concept of environmentalism. Going green is received in a positive way by Australians. Pet owners are doing their part in the green advocacy. This is exhibited and practiced through the production and consumption of natural dog products. You might be wondering how pet products are going green. There are two ways. First, food, shampoos, soaps, creams, and sprays are made of organic ingredients like herbs, plant extracts, fruits, and vegetables. Second, pet accessories like collars, poo bags, and toys are made of natural biodegradable materials instead of plastics. However, durability and reliability are not compromised.

The industry of natural dog products is still young and small. However, it is logical and not surprising that it is showing indications of rapid and steady growth. That is why there are pet supplies businesses like Fuzzdog that are operating to cater to rising demand for natural dog products. If you are still confused about such goods, here are some tips on how you could easily find and buy them.

Always read product labels when buying pet products. Check for organic content. To make it simple, products with long lists of chemicals and unpronounceable ingredients are not usually natural. Look for herbs and plant ingredients to be sure.

Buy products that are in recyclable bottles, as indicated. Natural pet products like shampoos, creams, and sprays are usually in recycled packages.

Do not buy flea control products that contain chemicals. There are natural alternatives that contain herbs and plant extracts as alternative active ingredients.

Lastly, if you want to make sure, ask your veterinarian or do ample research. You have to make sure you are patronizing and using natural dog products. To be more sure, buy online from Fuzzdog.

Pregnancy is one of the most joyous occasions in a women’s life and so it goes without saying that you need to take extra care of your growing baby and yourself. As the growing baby now starts to absorb everything you eat or drink it is important that you make some dietary modifications. Begin by consulting with your doctor who is the best judge and ask for a list of dos and don’ts. You could also gain a lot of information form pregnancy books. Pregnancy books are written by experts, but it is advisable that you opt for advice from the best. Here are a few simple tips:

It has been observed that it takes around 55,000 calories to help your baby grow, so that makes it around 300 calories per day that you need to consume extra every day. This is equivalent to an apple or even a glass or low fat milk. Your calorie requirement does not change in the first trimester, but your body will start demanding more vitamins and minerals. Folic acids, Vitamin B Complex, etc are all required for preventing birth defects and helping your baby grow in a healthy manner. So make sure you consume loads of colourful foods like vegetables and fruits, ask your doctor for vitamin supplements and don’t shy from eating that extra piece of chocolate cake.

Consume calcium rich food and milk is the best option. Calcium is required to make sure your baby’s bones develop without any hitch. You can even cook your oatmeal in milk instead of water to make sure you get that daily does of extra milk.

You have to make sure that you have a constant intake of fluids through out your pregnancy. It prevents you from being constipated and also helps the body cope with the increased blood volume which is required to carry oxygen and nutrients to the growing baby. You can even have orange juice or non fat milk, but remember to carry that water bottle with you at all times.

It is important that you have an iron rich diet. Protein-rich foods like chicken, lean meat, cooked dried peas and beans, fish and certain fruits have ample iron. Iron is important as it helps the body make red blood cells which is important to carry oxygen to the baby and also to avoid premature delivery and aid normal growth. It keeps you rejuvenated as well and helps fight fatigue which is common is mothers to be.

Don’t give up in sea food just yet. Sea food is supposed to be extremely good for pregnant women. Omega 3 fatty acids that are found in the fish are important for the vision and brain development in the baby. Omega 3 has also been studied to prevent preterm births, development delay, allergies and even asthma. But there is a downside as well. Consuming too much fish can cause harm as well as it can increase the mercury levels in the body and so fish consumption should be limited to say 12 ounces per week.

Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking completely. Alcohol results in irreversible birth defects and there is no safe consumption limits noted. Caffeine and caffeine products like colas and soft drinks should be avoided as much as possible. It has been studied that excess consumption can lead to miscarriage and even growth retardation.

Don’t follow fad diets even though you might be putting on extra kilos. Talk to your nutritionist and ask for a healthy diet to follow that is good for both you and the baby. If you starve your self you starve your baby, so eat healthy and exercise regularly. You could opt for swimming and prenatal exercise classes. Yoga is extremely beneficial as not only does it give you a good workout, it relaxes you and increases blood circulation and helps you breathe right.

It is most important that you consult with a doctor before following any advice and make sure you read up pregnancy books and sites to be better informed.

Your teeth are one of your most important assets, they are required through out our lives and need to be taken care of because they cannot heal them selves. They perform some task or the other through out the entire day and so to maintain proper dental and oral health there are some simple tips to follow.

It is essential that you clean your teeth after a meal with a toothbrush and dental floss. Make sure you buy the correct toothbrush for you. You get electric toothbrushes as well in the market that simplify cleaning your teeth. Make sure the bristles of the toothbrush are not too soft nor are they too hard as that would remove your protective layer called enamel. Too soft and it would not be able to remove any food particles that are stuck in your teeth. Floss in the correct manner too, don’t floss roughly as that will draw blood from your gums. Consult your dentist in Brisbane to get the right toothbrush and the correct way to floss.

Make sure you visit your dentist in Brisbane regularly. They can detect cavities immediately and put a stop to them before you end up requiring a root canal which is expensive and painful. Periodontal disease of the gums affects many adults which can be prevented by the dentist. Also your dentist in Brisbane can remove the plaque from your teeth in safe manner, thus reducing the bacteria present in your mouth preventing gum diseases and tooth decay.
If you experience any of the following then please contact your dentist immediately as you have increased chances of having periodontal diseases:

if you are unexplainably loosing teeth

if you have persistent bad breath

Gums that bleed when you brush or floss them

if you have red of swollen gums

if you notice that your gums have pulled away from the teeth

if you have pus between the teeth and gums

Avoid smoking as the nicotine can stain your teeth. Don’t use tobacco products as it can increase the chances of developing cancer of the mouth and throat.

Try and avoid chewing or biting on things that are extremely hard. This could result in chipped teeth which might need cosmetic dentistry.

Ask your dentist in Brisbane for some cosmetic solutions to repair the appearance of your teeth. Today you can whiten your teeth as well as fix chipped teeth.

Whenever taking part in sports try and wear mouth guards that protect your teeth incase of an impact to the face.
Eat a health and balanced diet which includes cheese, milk, meat, cereals, poultry, fish, fruits, vegetables, and yogurt. Try and avoid eating sweetened cereal without milk.

Avoid caffeine as much as possible. It can stain your teeth as well the added sugar in your coffee can increase chances of decay.
Avoid aerated drinks as the carbonated water can quicken the process of teeth decay.
Try and drink as much milk and water as possible. Milk restores the lost calcium and helps strengthen the teeth.
Try and avoid chewable vitamin C tablets with or without sugar as they are harmful for both children as well as adults.

Make sure you clean your tongue with a specialised tongue cleaner in order to remove the plaque and bacteria that cause bad breath. If you are uncomfortable with the tongue cleaner then brush with your regular toothbrush.

Visit your local dentist in Brisbane for more dental and oral health.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis that affects both men and women. It generally starts affecting the bones after the age of around 40, but it something that develops gradually over time. It causes the joints to become painful and stiff, causing major disability and impairment to movement. Osteoarthritis affects any joint in the body, but it occurs mostly in the joints of hands, feet, hips, knees, and spine. Many people think that osteoarthritis is crippling and worsens over time. In some cases where the wear and tear is chronic, it can be so, but in some cases osteoarthritis settles down as your body heals its self.

There is no permanent cure but there are many new age osteoarthritis treatments and physiotherapy exercises that can help find some relief and reduce the pain and stiffness.
So what exactly happens in Osteoarthritis?

You can compare it to the wear and tear of bones which causes the cartilage at the end of your bones to become thin and rough. When this occurs your body’s defense mechanism makes your bones grow outwards and in a thickened form. These outgrowths are called Osteophytes and this is what makes your joints appear wobbly. Now because a part of your bone is thick and has outgrowths these rub against each other causing inflammation and pain.

What can cause it?
Being over the age of 40
If you are a women your chances are higher
If someone in your family is afflicted with this illness
If you are overweight.
If you had an injury or an operation on any of your joints.
If you have rheumatoid arthritis

It is essential that you learn what the symptoms for osteoarthritis so that you can start immediate osteoarthritis treatment and help ease the pain and stiffness.

If you have osteoarthritis you could notice a stiffness and pain in your joints. The pain might be more aggravated after exercising.
Your joints may creak or make small noises called crepitations.
Your joint may appear wobbly and misshapen. You might not feel the same strength or stability in your joints.
If your osteoarthritis is severe you may experience pain even when you are resting or are sleeping. Some more specific symptoms are:

You might experience pain in your neck and back. This is also known as spondylosis in which the cartilage between the bones situated in your back that is the vertebrae can become thin which causes the spaces to become narrower. There are then outgrowths from the edges of these joints which cause pain and a sensation of numbness to travel down your arm.

In your hands, at the base of your thumb and the joints of your fingers there could be knobby swellings called Heberden’s Nodes.

In your feet osteoarthritis affects the joint at the base of your big toe which makes it stiff and thus making it difficult to walk.

You might require osteoarthritis treatment in your hip if you have pain in the front of your groin, around the front and side of your thigh, buttock or even down the knees. In cases where it is sever the affected leg may become shorter.

You could also experience pain in the front and back of the knee. If the case is sever then the knees could appear bent and bow legged.

Smoking is one of the most dangerous bad habits that you can have as not only does it harm your body, it also affects the people around you through passive smoking. Passive smoking is especially injurious for children and pregnant women as studies have shown that these children develop breathing and lung problems soon after. We know most of you have though of kicking the habit, but never can stop from lighting up. Our stressful lifestyle and the nicotine addiction make it one difficult habit to quit.

But don’t be afraid as there are some tricks to help you quit, but remember all them require your co-operation and will power. A new addition to the aids to help stop is the quit smoking hypnotherapy. Now you might wonder how hypnosis can help in quitting smoking. I mean you started so how can anyone else stop it? But the truth is that quit smoking hypnotherapy has worked in the cases of many people and it has been studied to have quite a roaring success rate. So how does this quit smoking hypnotherapy work?

You can visit a hypnotherapist who specialises in this field or you could even hire him/her to conduct the hypnosis in the comfort of your home. The therapist asks you to relax completely and asks you a series of questions which are related to your life and general well being. He then also tries to understand why it is that you smoke and now why you want to quit. After this he takes you into a hypnotic trance which is just that you are in your subconscious. You do not become unconscious, contrary to popular belief, you are actually aware of everything that is happening around you. The doctor then starts stressing on powerful messages that start getting imbedded in your subconscious. The messages are all related to get you to stop smoking and they work with the information you give before hand pertaining to why you want to stop smoking. Don’t worry your wife wont slip in messages to get you to start doing more chores at home.

Quit smoking hypnotherapy shows effect only if you allow your mind to relax completely. This does not work for many as often you feel like you can’t let go your mind and control that easily. Many are vary of hypnotherapy as they feel like someone is invading their private space. But if you really want to kick the butt then this is a really good option. After the hypnotherapy session many have quit completely and some even though they feel the urge to light up, just because curiosity gets the best of them, they have been studied to get a nasty taste in their mouth which makes them stub out the cigarette immediately. If it doesn’t work in the first session you should go back for some follow up sessions to reinforce the message to quit.

Smoking is really injurious to health and it is not just a message or a caption printed on your cigarette box. Your life is precious and it is not only yours, it is your spouse’s, your children’s and your friends’ as well so take care of it.
